GARDENING

SEEDS - You will have to begin prep for planting in Minnesota in February; gathering equipment and starting some seeds as early as the first week of March. If you have seeds buried in the ground (cached), in a waterproof container, for example, you may not be able to get to them in March if the ground is still frozen. The seeds that you plant in the spring have to be out of the buried container - out of the ground - before winter. So, plan ahead. If you cached some seeds this year, they can only be available the next spring planting season - if the container gets dug up by Thanksgiving.

You May Need a GREENHOUSE

DIY LONG TERM STORAGE - You need mylar bags, oxygen absorbers, diatomaceous earth, gamma seal 5 gal. buckets & lids, heavy duty shelving, indoor storage, dehumidifier & fan if you have electricity.

WOOD MANAGEMENT - without electricity or gas, how will you heat your home?

Chainsaw - Get 3 of the same exact kind, to swap parts in case of failure.

Shop around. Standardizing (3 of the same kind) models will come in very handy.

Wood Splitter - If you can rent one and put up 3 seasons of wood in a week, then maybe you can keep up with an axe - otherwise keeping up with an axe invites injury and a very cold and long winter.

GLOVES - Get a case. You will need them.
